Four houses recycled and moved!
About IHS
Interfaith Housing Services (IHS), a faith-based organization not affiliated with any religion, is a convergence of many denominations, civic organizations, social groups, businesses, and individuals who help meet the needs of our community. IHS envisions communities where equal opportunities for safe, affordable, accessible and quality housing services are available to everyone.
Interfaith Housing Services brings the housing needs of individuals to the attention of the community at large and then organizes the manpower, abilities, expertise and donations of those that want to "make a difference" so that help is provided where it is needed most. IHS serves to provide housing solutions to those least likely to find housing assistance in traditional means. This includes extensive work in providing both rental housing and ownership opportunities to people and families with both physical and developmental disabilities.
To fulfill its mission, IHS operates four programs
| Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program | |
| Homeowner Occupied Repair | |
| First Time Home Ownership | |
| Individual Development Accounts |
IHS has an excellent reputation for helping people in the community with housing needs. Over the last 19 years we have:
- assisted over 600 homeowners in area counties to keep their homes livable
- provided 117 safe, and affordable rental units housing people with disabilities, elderly, and families
- helped 36 first time home buyers acquire a home
- opened 35 Individual Development Accounts
IHS programs serve children, youth, seniors, families, individuals and the community in a variety of ways. Through the years, our grants and private donations brought over $7,000,000 into the counties we serve all of which positively affected not only the housing industry, but the economic development of the towns and cities in those counties as well.
We watch neighborhoods improve because we repair one house therefore inspiring neighbors to work on their homes. The greatest joy is seeing someone who had essentially given up all hope once again enjoy a positive outlook on life because they have a home they are proud of--a home where the roof does not leak, a home where there are no holes in the floor, a home where the furnace and water heater work again. The pleasure of helping someone live in a home that is a safe harbor when the going gets rough, is a blessing to staff, volunteers and the client.
