Frequently Asked
Questions
Is rent based on what I earn?
No, the rent on our units
is a flat rate that is set below the fair market
value. We charge the same amount for rent regardless
of income.
Are your
apartments HUD approved?
Yes, they are HUD
approved. If you have a section 8 voucher from the
Housing Authority you can use it to rent one of our
units.
Do
you allow pets?
As a general rule we
do not allow pets.
If I do
not have a job or an income, can I still rent from you?
Yes, we will however need
someone else co-sign the lease and be responsible for
paying your rent if you are unable to. As a general
rule, we try not to rent to individuals if rent will be
more than 30% of their income.
What type
of repairs do you help with if someone owns their home?
If your home is suffering
from conditions that will cause or lead to structural
damage and/or pose a safety hazard we can help you. Projects include, but are not
limited to, repair of broken pipes, leaking roofs,
exterior painting, replacing/repairing furnace or hot
water heater, repair to weak floors, and we address
accessible issues if you are physically disabled.
Do you
know of anyone who can help with a wheelchair ramp?
Yes, we can. We use
a program called Kansas Accessibility Modification
Program (KAMP) and have funds available, if you meet
program guidelines, we can build a ramp for you.
This program also helps with other accessibility issues
such as installing accessible showers, ADA toilets, grab
bars, hand rails and widening doorways to allow
wheelchair access.
If I rent, can you still help
with accessibility issues?
Yes. There is less funding available for modifications
but we will still try to help.
If I am on
a land contract or own a mobile home that is not on a
permanent foundation, can you do repairs for me?
No, unfortunately due to
the funding sources that we use we are not able to do
repairs on these types of homes.
I do not
know anything about construction, are there things I can
volunteer to do?
Rest easy, we will teach
you what you need to know. We take volunteers at every
skill level and will find work for you to do.
How
far in advance should I contact IHS to make arrangements
for volunteering?
If you are volunteering as
an individual or small group we need at least a week's
notice. Larger groups require longer.
